Protective plate made of zinc die-cast, nickel-plated and polished. Made in Switzerland. Zinc die-casting started during the first third of the 19th century; up until the early 20th century it played an important role in interior design.

The high fluidity of molten zinc and its relatively homogeneous alloy (with little copper and magnesium) make zinc diecasting (or zamak) particularly suitable for the casting of fine shapes and the high polishing of surfaces. Zinc die casting has been largely displaced by alumium in households. Here, the material formerly significant in interior design returns in the form of beautiful, clear door and window handles, once nickel-plated and polished, once painted black.
