Rye straws (60 & 200 pieces)
Our alternative to plastic straws comes from a small farm in the Hausruckviertel region of Upper Austria. As well as being easy to dispose of, they also serve as an example of farming where nothing is simply ‘waste’, but is used to create added value. The basis for family Auinger's straws are stalks of old rye varieties, which are collected using an almost museum-like ‘binding mower’; every bent stalk is rejected for further processing. In the final step, the straws are prepared for use in jars and bottles using a specially developed steam sterilisation process (which is also more visually appealing than using their plastic ancestors).
