Owners of our switches made of Duroplast or Bakelite will be familiar with the high-quality look and feel of melamine products from the German family-run company WACA in Halver-Carthausen, Westphalia. This is because melamine is a type of thermoset and is also used in our switches. The material not only looks better than conventional thermoplastics, but also has a number of important advantages for kitchen and household applications : Despite its hard surface, melamine is very break-resistant, cold-resistant down to -50 °C , does not discolorand can be conveniently cleaned in the dishwasher. Only acids, bases and heat (>70 °C) should not be permanently exposed to it; it should therefore not be placed in the microwave. However, melamine can withstand higher temperatures for short periods without any problems and is harmless to health - e.g. when filling hot (100 °C) drinks and food.
