The W 48 from the traditional Munich-based company Reiner has little in common with today's astronomically expensive, attention-grabbing mobile all-rounders. The W 48 cannot send e-mails, take photos, is not used for mobile payments and does not fit into your trouser pocket. It can actually only do one thing, but it can do it particularly well: make phone calls in first-class sound quality. In return, you are more than compensated for the "loss" of multifunctionality: this phone leaves its owner completely alone for most of the day and does not follow them wherever they go - it stays in its usual place. The W 48 is also acoustically incomparable with modern mobile phones: Callers are announced by means of two real bells; when the handset is lifted, this phone signals its operational readiness with a rich mechanical click and when dialling, the Siemens 38 number switch rattles. About the material: The housing and receiver were moulded from Bakelite in the original 1930s moulds. The dial's number ring is made of enamelled steel. The handset cord is braided with iron yarn, just like back then.
